Impulse Compaction “TERRA-MIX System”
Implementation: Sept. 2013
BV: GKB Dobl–Lieboch Route
Client: Graz-Köflacher Bahn und Busbetrieb GmbH
Length: 384 running meters
Project Description:
On this approximately 150-year-old railroad embankment, water ingress into the subgrade caused significant differential settlement between the track sections. As a result, the maximum permitted speed had to be reduced to 30 km/h! A method was sought for the rehabilitation of the railroad subgrade that would be capable of compacting the required section length of approximately 384 running meters over a width of just under 6.0 meters in a maximum of 40 hours.
Solution:
The geotechnical engineer in charge recommended impulse compaction as the most suitable method. As part of a calibration test, two crossings with a maximum penetration depth (800 mm) were defined as the termination criterion. After the rails and wooden ties were removed and the track ballast was lowered and spread to a depth of approximately 50 cm above the subgrade, TERRA-MIX was able to begin impulse compaction using two machines!
Result:
In less than 30 hours, the track superstructure was restored, and the rehabilitation of this section of track was completed well ahead of schedule before the track closure ended!
Система Impulse-Compaction
The IMPULSE COMPACTION system TERRA MIX is an innovative method of improving a building ground and impulse compaction of mediumly deep areas. All compactable grounds can hence be quickly and economically compacted. Compared to conventional methods used for building ground improvement such as vibration stuffing compaction, vibration pressure compaction, ground replacement, drilling stakes, ductile stakes, jet grounding or DYNIV(Dynamic Intensive Compaction) the IMPULSE COMPACTION system TERRA-MIX convinces with three essential advantages: BUILDING TIME SAVINGS, BUILDING COSTS SAVINGS, GENTLE ON RESSOURCES
