Project Scope:
On Lots J8 and J9, several building complexes—some with underground parking garages—were planned, with a total height of up to 24 m. The areas above the underground parking garage were to be built on a layer of gravel with very loose to loose consistency, which could not support the applied load (σ pred. = 250–425 kN/m²) without soil improvement. For this reason, soil improvement measures were absolutely necessary in the area above the underground parking garage!
Solution:
Porr Bau GmbH opted for IMPULSE COMPACTION. Using this method, the highly heterogeneous, loosely packed gravel could be compacted to the required depth extremely cost-effectively and quickly! A grid spacing of 3 m x 3 m was selected; in areas with higher loads (σ prev. = 425 kN/m²), additional points were also included in the plan!
Result:
All areas were compacted to a medium-dense to dense consistency, and it was demonstrated that even the areas between the compaction points were optimally compacted! Due to the inhomogeneity of the subgrade, the intensity of compaction (1–3 passes, 15 to 50 blows per pass) varied greatly. However, based on the measurement logs, it was ultimately possible to demonstrate optimal homogenization—“leveling”—of the subgrade, and the required allowable ground pressures were achieved throughout.
